FERPA Info

Impact on the University's FERPA Procedure

Information that is protected from disclosure pursuant to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), such as grades, financial aid details, and student account/billing information is maintained in a secure environment. A student may grant permission to a parent or guest to access information through this Parent Guest Portal.

If granted access via the Parent/Guest Portal, students can also grant a unique FERPA Passphrase to the parent or guest. University staff will request this passphrase when speaking with a parent or guest to verify the identity of that person before discussing a student’s authorized records with the individual in person or over the phone.

Note: Online bill pay authorized user access can also be set up by a student and provided to a parent/third party through the WVU MyAccount portal.

Due to the protection of students’ rights under FERPA, a student may restrict the information that a parent or guest is able to access and revoke access at any time.
